First Haircut

Mommy, Daddy, and Gram gave Asher his first haircut tonight. He was very good about it (especially after a day of very little napping and it being about normal bedtime). It is a little choppy, but he is an18 1/2 month old little boy that rarely sits still. Mommy forgot to take his chair with us to Gram and Papa’s so we had to use a pillow to prop him up on one of Great-Grandma Edith’s dining room chairs and strap him in with Papa’s belt. He ate dinner the same way but using her red “king chair” (picture will be uploaded eventually).

Asher officially doesn’t look like a baby anymore, he looks like a little boy 🙁  ( Great Grandma Dougherty, don’t say anything to Mom and Dad if you read this and get to Easter dinner before us, please. They don’t know we gave Asher his first haircut yet!)

Visiting Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Osborn, Gram and Papa, and getting a haircut makes Asher very sleepy!

Akron Zoo

Today Asher, Mommy, and Daddy became members of the Akron Zoo!  The weather was wonderful. We saw the penguins, flamingos, lemurs, and spent most of the time in the  aquatic area. The zoo closed at four so we only spent about two hours there, but now that we are members we can go more often!  Asher was able to get his Easter present from Mommy and Daddy… a stuffed ahhpahtah, otherwise known as an octopus. If anyone would like to join us for a zoo adventure, please let us know when. Our membership includes two visitors each time we go.

Pictures to come. We used our new camera so Mommy has to upload them to the computer instead of using her phone.

Alphabet

Tonight after dinner Asher and Mommy were practicing the alphabet. Prior to each letter you have to say “Can you say…” In order for him to repeat it if you don’t he just says yeah.  Because if this, it takes much longer to go through the alphabet and counting. There are certain letters he likes to say and others he does not. A and B are fine, C, D, E not so much, loves F, G we got mumbling, H he said plain as day “I don’t wanna do that!”. I, J, K same but not as clear. L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T ARE ok with him. U, V, W, X, Y, and Z are not in his favorites. Counting is one and he says two, two he says two, three is two again. 4-10 he says done for each one. Such a silly, silly boy. There is a video of this, but we are still not able to post them on here.

MMR

Asher had his MMR vaccine at his doctor’s appointment last week. Well, he is experiencing an allergic reaction to it. On Thursday he started with a couple red dots on his face and Friday it got worse. Mommy called the doctor’s office and they confirmed it is most likely a reaction to the vaccine. The nurse said to keep an eye on him and if the reaction got bad call or go to urgent care. He has not had a fever or any seizures, which are other more serious reactions. On Saturday evening he started with red bumps along his waste at the top of his diaper.  By today (Sunday) he has little bumps all over his chest and some on his legs. Still no fever and he is not acting out of the ordinary. Mommy and Daddy will continue to keep an eye on him and possibly call the doctor tomorrow.

Pottying

Well, Asher has continued to try to go potty each evening with no success. We will continue trying though.
(Asher won’t be too happy when he is older that these are posted, but they are cute!  I love you, Ashy!)

Potty time

Asher has not been eating well lately and Mommr has been battling him at meal times. Tonight was no different. Asher spit out a mouthful of edamame and Mommy and Daddy got very upset with him. If it weren’t for having taken swim lessons today, he would not have been able to take a bath instead Mommy took away playtime with his new big, green ball after his bath. So, she got him ready (after he swallowed one more bean) and put him on his hippo potty while she got his Pooh tub ready. He did not have to potty so he got to take his bath. After his bath (with no toys since he was being punished) he got out and danced at the mirror on the bathroom door as he usually does. He then ran over to his hippo potty and tried to step into it. Mommy helped him sit down and pushed the button for his story to start (it is a story a out Henry the hippo and going potty). The next thing Mommy knew, she was getting peed on!  Not only did Asher pee on the toilet (well sort of) he also pooped!!!  Mommy and Daddy are SO proud of him that he realized he had to go potty and he knew what to do. We are not holding our breath, this could be a fluke.  Needless to say, he was allowed to play after he got his jammies on, but Asher was too tired and wanted to drink his milk and go see Anna (the bird, which is his word for go downstairs to watch a little bit of tv).
We didn’t take any potty pictures so swimming lesson pictures with Grant and Mommy will have to suffice.

Bog

Asher, Daddy, and Mommy went to the Kent Bog today. Asher had an amazing time. Apparently females get leaves and males get sticks. He would pick up a lead and hand it to Mommy and say Mama or Gaga. Later he started picking up sticks and giving them to Daddy saying Dada. He would point up at the trees and hoot like an owl, and when he heard a bird he would point up or to the bird and say Anna. We have never explained that Anna is a bird, he has deduced that himself.  He ran pretty much the entire way (it is at least a half mile). When he wasn’t running he was playing jump with Mommy and Daddy.

18 month check up

Asher went to the doctor this morning. He is doing well and got his MMR vaccine. His head is 19 inches (sorry,  no percentile), weight 26 pounds 8 ounces (60 percentile) and height 34.5 inches (95+ percentile). The doctor is not concerned about him being so thin since he is healthy. He predicts he will have problems with allergies later due to the dry skin and blotching he gets with allergic reactions (latest are chlorine from swim lessons, pineapple, and apricot).  Developmentally he is way ahead of schedule.

Apricots

Asher loved eating apricot jam on his goldfish toast today, but the apricots don’t like him so well 🙁  By dinnertime his right cheek was blotchy and his legs. Under his eyes even started to get little bumps (almost like a stye). It is a good thing be has his 18 month well check with Dr. MacCallum in the morning.
