Today was testing day at tae kwon do. Asher did well with his form (after they reinforced the need to say “Yes, sir” when asked to do something). When it was time for Asher to break his board with the rest of the kids, he told them he did not want to do it. Grandmaster Andrachik explained that he would not receive his new yellow and black belt until he broke a board. Asher told him it was ok, he did not want a new belt. After all the other kids finished their board breaks and received their new belts, Master Andrachik and Mr. Anderson took Asher off to the side to have a conversation. Asher explained the reason he doesn’t like to break boards is due to the noise it makes. Master Andrachik worked with him and convinced him to break a quiet board with his ears covered. So, Master Andrachik searched the stack of boards and found the quietest one there was for Asher to break. He did so well breaking it! Everyone there was so proud of him for getting over this fear! Another Tiger Tots parent even ran back in to clap and cheer for him. The rest of the time we were there, the staff made a big deal anytime they interacted with Asher about how proud they were of him for breaking the board.
(Notice in the background of the new belt video Mr. Anderson’s huge smile. He said to Mommy several times before we left how awesome Asher did and how proud of him he was.)

By the way, Daddy and Mommy did test after Asher’s and both of them received their orange belts. Each of us is one tiny step closer to our First Dan Black Belt!
