Cheese smell

On Asher and Mommy’s way home from work/Papagug’s today, Asher told her he smelled something like cheese. She asked if he tooted and his response, “No, Mommy. I said I smelled something that smelled like cheese not a toot. Farts smell yucky and cheese smells yummy, yummy, yummy! Hmmm… I think I want some cheese!”

Baking

Asher decided he wanted to bake cookies again today since it was so cold (it warmed up to -1 without windchill) and we could not go out to play or run errands. He wanted to make Jupiter and Saturn cookies.  mommy was not able to find our cookie cutters so the stars he wanted to make were really snowflakes.  He rolled and cut out two trays of the cookies.  He then moved on to decorating them.  He did a wonderful job and decorated four trays of them.  Then he decided it was more fun to eat the candy instead!  Haha.

He also wanted to make Jupiter Jell-o jigglers.  So he and Mommy made orange Jell-o and then used a cup to cut out circle Jell-o Jupiters.  They had lots of fun!

Yes, the fish, Beta (the other one is named Beta also, but sometimes one is named Gold and the other Fish)  has a yogurt cup on top of it.  This is to keep Pockets from drinking the water.

Half Orange Belt Test

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Asher was awarded his half orange belt today at testing (Daddy and Mommy received their orange tip belts)!

Form – It took some extra instruction, but at least he paid attention and listened when Master Andrachick and Mr. Anderson addressed him.

Board Break – Asher actually broke his board without any conversation or coaxing.  This is the first time he has done this on his own.  Notice he prepared himself by walking up to the board with his hands on his hears.  Haha… whatever it takes!

Belt Ceremony – Notice Ash is the only one that decided to take their belt off on their own.  He is the one talking about red being his favorite color to Mrs. Master Weiner.

Great job today, Asher!  Daddy and Mommy are very proud of the progress you have made.  We love you!

Valentine

On Wednesday, Asher and his friends went on a walk/hike at some points with Miss Colleen, Miss Carol, and Miss Devin to the post office to mail their letters.  It has been pretty snowy lately.  Apparently taking a class of three year olds to the post office might not have been the best idea.  There were several mountains of snow they had to climb over and the sidewalks were not always cleared.  When they made it to the post office each child put their letter in the mailbox themselves.  Pretty much all the kids got tired on the way back so Miss Colleen, Miss Carol, and MIss Devin took turns carrying.  When one kid said they were tired, they put down the one they were carried and picked up the next.  Asher said Miss Devin carried him twice and Miss Colleen once. According to Asher, his friend Cici got snow in her boots so her feet got cold and wet and she cried.  His feet got wet also and he had to get new socks on when they got back to school.  The kids were very tired when they got back to school.  Gaga said Ash was almost asleep by the time they got to Papagug’s (less than a ten minute drive).

Daddy and Mommy received their letter today (Friday) and loved the Valentine he sent them.

These are the Valentine’s he gave to his friends. They had their party on Friday so he did not get to participate since he doesn’t go to school on Fridays.

Earache

This evening Asher complained of his ear hurting. He wanted to watch Sheriff Callie so Mommy had him put a heating pad on it while he watched the two episodes and the little show. (Disney has their Disney shorts at the end of the shows. These are less than five minute stories. Lately Winnie the Pooh with this British guy narrating had been the little show. ) About halfway through he said his ear was all better and the warm compress worked really well. He’s on antibiotics for the clogged pore on his lower back that was causing discomfort so hopefully there aren’t any more issues.

He also has another upper respiratory thing going on. And has been comparing his legs hurt so “I must be growing.” Maybe he will feel all the way better soon.

Toot song

Asher and Mommy went to Lager and Vine after work today to celebrate Miss Victoria’s birthday. Miss Victoria, Mr. Rick, Mr. Thom, Mr. Dan, Miss Mary Lou, Mr. Carm and Miss Rowena were there. When it was time to leave Asher farted and it smelled pretty bad. He then started singing “The Toot Song” and would not stop.

(Since the initial singing, he has to ask if it is appropriate to sing the song. )

Pointless Farest

Asher and Gaga have been listening to Harry Nilsson’s “The Point!” when they are in the car and they read the insert from the CD when at home from time to time. On the way home today, Asher insisted he and Mommy were riding in a space ship to the pointless farest. That’s not a typo. He insisted it was farest not forest. They had to hurry and run back to the vehicle and shut the doors and windows so the swarm of bees that was chasing them didn’t get them. Also, they had to whisper so the monsters and ghosts wouldn’t find them. There was a dog in the car, but not Oblio. It was Seamus and he wasn’t barking or making noise. They got home before he could elaborate on Seamus’s part of the story. He has such an imagination!

Cookies

Asher is feeling much better. He wanted to make Jupiter cookies for his class so he and Mommy made Grandma Hart’s sugar cookie recipe (thanks Gram for rewriting it and sending it to us). Asher had lots of fun flouring the counter, rolling the dough, having Mommy roll it a little more, using a cup to cut out circles or the ninja cutters, and lifting them off the counter and handing them to Mommy. Between each step he would say “and the next step is…” He and Daddy played space while the cookies finished baking and Mommy made icing and iced them.

Reading

At preschool, Miss Carol and Miss Colleen have been working on the sounds each letter makes along with letter identification and writing. Asher and Mommy have started reading in the evenings again.  (We had gotten away from it since he has been wanting to watch Sheriff Callie’s Wild West.) Tonight we pulled out phonics flashcards and started working on him reading the words in the card by sounding them out. He did REALLY well!  He picked an o card and sounded out: ox, off, old, ostrich (the picture on the other side helped with this one) , and two other words.  So proud of him for making such a huge keep in development at such a young age (at least Mommy thinks it is young to start reading words without pictures attached to them)!

Update (four days later): Asher is still doing awesome reading his flashcards. We are trying to do at least one a day. Today we did four. This is the last one, but at least it shows he is trying.

Rag and Boogers/Germs

Last night, Asher was in bed and Mommy heard him cough a couple times. A couple minutes later she heard him asking for a rag. She got a washcloth out of the closet and went into his room. He told her he wanted a rag to wipe the boogers. Poor little guy, he had vomited all over his two pillows, all his blankets, about half his stuffies, his jammies, and the sheets. He has lucked out to make it this far in his life without really vomiting vomiting. He told Mommy when she said it wasn’t boogers that he had to wipe the germs away and give him the rag. While Mommy got him out of bed and and into the bathtub, Daddy went through his stuff and started the laundry. He loved getting to sleep with Mommy and Daddy. When Asher was a baby, when he would go to sleep he would rub his foot on the sheets. Mommy discovered that he still does it when he is trying to go to sleep and when he sleeps.
This morning he ate his yogurt for breakfast and drank an entire glass of water. When putting his dishes away, all of it came back up on the kitchen floor. He was a good sport about it especially since he somehow managed to get his blankey and it had to get washed again. He managed to get through the rest of the day without getting sick again, but he was really pale all day and fairly lethargic.  Hopefully he is over the worst of it. Gotta love his positive attitude and willingness to help even though he doesn’t feel well. He watered the plants at home today, helped with putting dishes and toys away, and helped remake his bed.
