Report Card
It is hard to believe the first nine weeks of first grade is complete! We are so proud of how well Asher is doing!!! He has been working very hard on self control and Mrs. Tonelli notices it.
Los Angeles – Endeavour
Today we went back to the California ScienCenter since we spent the majority of yesterday seeing King Tut’s artifacts. Today we explored the rest of the museum and learned about the human body (Ash got a little nervous being in the room while Daddy and Mommy watched a video on a body of lung surgery but he loved the game on blood pressure), weather patterns, transportation, sound distribution, etc. One of the highlights at the museum today was visiting the spaceship Endeavour. A few years ago they maneuvered the shuttle through the streets of LA to get it to the ScienCenter. It was amazing to see a shuttle that has left Earth’s atmosphere. Outside, since it was too large to display together in the current exhibit, was the massive fuel tank. The museum is working on funding for a new exhibit where the shuttle and fuel tank will be exhibited attached to one another again with an observation deck so you will be able to look into a portion of the shuttle.
After walking to see a portion of campus, Asher experienced Chipotle for the first time – not a fan due to the “spicy”-ness.
After lunch, we went to the California African American Museum. What a humbling experience! The California Bound – Slavery on the New Frontier 1848-1865 exhibition was phenomenal. It was an experience to see what they used to keep the slaves “in line,” what they used to trade, and court transcripts documenting a person’s legal journey to freedom even after the Emancipation Act of 1862. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. exhibit, Asher got a headache that Tylenol would not help so we headed back to the room for a few hour rest.
That night we went to Karl Strauss Brewery for dinner. They had AMAZING mac and cheese options for each of us. (Our dining experiences in LA thus far had not been that positive so we were happy for a great atmosphere and amazing food.)
Los Angeles – King Tut
We went to the King Tut exhibit at the California ScienCenter in Los Angeles today. It was a pretty amazing experience to see over 150 original artifacts from King Tut’s tomb that were discovered almost 100 years ago. We learned a lot more about the way Egyptians lived close to 4,000 years ago. After we saw the three sections of the exhibit (one on how they packed and transported everything, one with the precious artifacts, and one with a timeline of the excavation and more detailed history), we saw an IMAX movie about ancient Egypt, Mysteries of Ancient Egypt. It was pretty surreal to watch the movie after and see photos of Howard Carter in the tomb with items that literally just had a piece of glass between us and it. Just visiting this exhibit made the trip across the country worth it. Let’s see what tomorrow brings!

Tooth Fairy and Dress
Two more teeth gone (bottom center)! Still took about an hour and a decent amount of tears. We tried the Nerf gun version, but the dental floss kept slipping off the tooth. Eventually, he went with the same Dad pulling it with dental floss way this time.
Once both teeth were out Asher is very concerned about the tooth fairy and only putting a dress under his pillow. After much confusion, he explained the tooth fairy might forget his money and only bring Mommy a dress for her birthday. (If only the tooth fairy had a new dress to put under there ?
Notes
On the days Asher packs, Mommy sends him a note in his lunchbox. Today, he got done eating popcorn and ran upstairs and said he was working on a secret but for Mommy to wait in the mail delivery section of the house (in the living room below the balcony by the art studio section). A little bit later he yells, Mama it is mail time!
