2nd Grade Report Card

Second grade ended a LOT different than anticipated. Ash will be moving on to third grade (whatever that will look like)! The 2020=2021 school year guidelines have not yet been released, but Governor DeWine announced earlier this week that schools will be in session in the fall under different guidelines.

Even though it was difficult, Asher did an amazing job working through home schooling. He ended the school year far beyond, knowledge-wise, where he would have if they had in-person school all year.

COVID19 Day 34

Today Asher and Mommy went to Wetmore Trailhead, part of the Cuyahog Valley National Park. The “normal” entrance seemed a little busy so they went back down the hill and parked at a spot that allowed parking for three cars. When they parked there was one other car there. As they were getting out of the car the couple who had just arrived back from their hike discovered their battery was dead. After helping to jump the other car, they began their hike. Today there was a defined trail, but it was very steep at different times and went through water and lots of mud.

Today Ash wanted to experiment with how fast ice cubes melted in running water. He also discovered burst shot on the camera and experimented with watching the ice melt through that and then having Mommy do silly dances. He continued with Imagineering through Khan Academy, and they had another movie night campout.

COVID19 Day 33

Asher started the day with homemade cinnamon rolls. He also worked on his Disney Imagineering course.

Ash and Mommy went to Babb Run and explored until they found Hidden Falls. They started with Asher wanting to play truth or dare and it moved on to Adher learning to conquer his fears. She dared him to go off the “trail” and climb on a tree stump. This lead to being dared to go across a fallen tree. About four dates in, no more dates were needed. Asher loved exploring the wooded areas, the puddles, and mud.

Ash and Mommy ended the day with a surprise additional soccer ball from the Easter bunny, homemade celebration chocolate chunk cookies, and a movie night followed by another campout in the living room.

COVID19 Day 32

Asher enjoyed cheering on the virtual RuberDucks during the video game enhanced home opener. Governor Dewine even threw out the first pitch.

He practiced some forms using his gold and blue pompom. He and Mommy practiced soccer skills in the basement.

He made pirate for self portrait for art class and for Mr. Bates’ Flipgrid challenge he performed an obstacle course.

COVID19 Day 32

Today Asher learned about the election process. The primary election was canceled in person on March 17, 2020. All voting was to occur via absentee. This election included the presidential primary and a Kent City School District bond issue to improve the schools. Asher learned about all the candidates on the ballot and helped Mommy determine which candidate represented what they believed was more important for our community’s future.

After a quick, cold bike ride, Asher and Mommy went to Walgreens to pick up her prescription via the drive thru. Asher was still cold so he used his ear warmers to warm his cheeks.

COVID19 Day 30

Asher started the day with chocolate chip waffles with carmel and maple syrup and a strawberry vanilla milkshake. He completed a math assessment on Freckle and enjoyed making a negative space abstract painting via McHarper Manor’s guided video.

The Easter bunny followed through a day early with three soccer balls! Ash and Mommy played toss the ball up the steps and block it with your foot or leg below the knee. If it made it passed the person upstairs the person below scored a point. They also played soccer in the basement using his pop up nets. The ball kept going out of bounds behind the goal. They kept yelling “out of bounds behind the goal” and it started to get jumbled together and eventually it became “giggle juice havoc.” So everytime the ball went out of bounds they yelled giggle juice havoc.

Asher and Mommy decided to go on a bike ride since Mommy’s phone said it was 46 degrees. Well, it must not have updated. It was awful chilly, and halfway around the block it started snowing! When they got home from what seemed like a VERY long ride (only around the block with one cul de sac) they made some hot cocoa (milk, heavy cream, syrup today instead of the normal chocolate chips, and a shake of cinnamon).
